Warm Up Routine

We blast some beats on the radio and then begin our stretches. Get a high energy buzz in the room before we start. Then we’ll do some light stretching and possibly jog some laps around the mat or jump rope. We want to get the muscles warm and loose in order to get the most from the rest of class.

Time to Hit Stuff

Right now its time to put on our boxing gloves and start punching stuff. Our bag rack holds 30 punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you want to feel your fist hit something when you throw a blow. Hitting bags is the best stress reliever. There’s nothing better then winding up and smashing a boxing bag as hard as you can and placing life’s problems on mute for the sixty mins of class. We aren’t just smacking the punching bag aimlessly, the teacher will take you through different types of combos of punches, knees, and kicks. You will probably seem a little uncoordinated and off base in your first class, no matter what your fitness level. Considering that the difficult moves will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the rounds usually are relatively basic combos, when all is said and done, it is a technique that improves with practice. Plan to give your body 3 or 4 classes before you feel comfortable with the moves. Many classes blend the same general techniques in a different order or part of the combination.

Pad work
After a couple rounds on the boxing bags we then pair up students and give you boxing pads or a kick shield. One student will hold for the other. We divide the class into new students and more advanced students so the new members have easier more basic combinations while the more skilled kick boxers get longer more intricate combos. Don’t for a second think that holding pads is a break, in your first class you will discover very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.

6 Pack Secrets

The core of your body, includes the abs and lower back muscles, will get an unintended work out just by performing the boxing and kicking training. Right now we do some core exercises. side planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Developing the core will assist your techniques get better, develop your power and stamina, and it will start to show your six pack abs.

At the end we will have each student pick up a set of dumbbells and do shoulder, arms, and lower body movements. This is a great way to build up some muscle while forcing your body to burn a few extra calories. Utilizing both cardio and weights in the same workout will help build shape and define your arms, back, and shoulders. Beating the crap out of the bag and holding pads already have your arms cooked but there is no stopping now if you want toned and defined shoulders, back, and arms.

And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill machine , or riding a bike.
