Take your self esteem back! Not only will you look better and have more energy from being active and exercising, you will also discover basic self defense. How to properly punch, kick, and knee to optimize power and speed. You never box with another client in our Women’s Only kickboxing classes so you will never have to think about getting hit. I will give you a walk through of a typical class here at Westchester Cardio Kickboxing.

Warm Up Routine

We blast some beats on the radio and then start our warmup. Have a high energy atmosphere in the room before we start. Which ever the trainer chooses that day just like the tunes, we will warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We break a sweat and elevate your heart rate to get the most out of your workout and help reduce the chances of injury.

Gloves on

Its time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. Our bag area holds thirty boxing bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist hit something when you throw a blow. Hammering the crap out of a bag and imagining its your manager or ex boyfriend is the best stress reliever. The instructor will show you a combination that you’ll practice for the full round and try to get it right before you get out of breathe. Then between the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to demonstrate the next round’s combo. After a class or 2 you’ll begin to look like you know what you’re doing. You’ll probably seem a bit uncoordinated and off base in the first class, regardless of your fitness level. Because the demanding techniques will be different for your muscles, not just your brain. Though the combinations usually are fairly basic combinations, when all is said and done, it is a routine that improves with time. Plan to give yourself 3 or 4 classes before you feel like you know the movements. All routines blend the same standard movements in a different order or part of the combination.

Pad work
Now we do buddy drills. Don’t worry you’re not attacking each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for each other. Now you get to act like a trainer holding pads for his fighter then change off and become the fighter bashing the pads. You might feel a little awkward but don’t fret, it only takes a couple of try’s to get your technique down, both for striking mitts and for being a good gym buddy and holding them. After your very first or second workout it will be a breeze .

Abdominals

Time for Abs, even though without knowing it you have been training your abdominals the whole entire class, corkscrewing your form on punches and kicks. That being said, a full kickboxing workout should include working the core and lower back muscles through moves as russian twists, siccors, and planks. Building the core will help your movements improve, develop your strength and endurance, and it’ll start working on your 6 pack abs.

Now its time to grab some free weights. Now its time to finish strong and push it class is almost over. The Last thing we do is pick up a pair of weights. Boxing will help define your arms but then after a 15 minutes on the punching bag grabbing a pair of dumbbells and lifting with the class will help you get the firm and toned arms you’re looking for.

Cool Down
Good job, you made it through your first class. Props for pushing it and making it through. a full class of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a running machine , or riding a bike.
