Warming Up

Our warmup begins with high energy music, whatever we feel like that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90’s pop. Have a high energy buzz in the room before we start. Whatever the coach chooses that day the same as the music, we’ll warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We need to get the muscles warm and loose to get the most out of the rest of the workout.

Bag Work

Right now its time to strap up our boxing gloves and start hitting stuff. Our bag area holds 30 bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist hit something when you throw a strike . Beating the crap out of a heavy bag and imagining its your manager or ex boyfriend is a great stress reliever. The coach will give you a combo that you’ll work on for the full round and try to get it right before you get out of breathe. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach the next round’s combination. After a class or 2 you will begin to look like you know what you are doing. The more you train the better you will become, a lot of new members think a few of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are competitors, thats how good their striking has gotten.

Partner Up
At this point we have the class pair up. Don’t worry you’re not punching each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for the other person. Now you and your workout buddy will look like a coach and their fighter, and you’ll get to swap and play both sides. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few classes to feel balanced and smooth punching the mitts and bags, the same thing can be said for learning to hold pads. At your next or 3rd kickboxing class it will be a piece of cake for you.

Crunch Time

Time for abdominals, even though without realizing it you have been exercising your abs the whole workout, corkscrewing your body on strikes and kicking. Now we do some core moves. side planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Developing the core will assist your movements get better, develop your power and conditioning, and it will start working on your six pack abs.

Now its time to grab some free weights. This is a great way to build muscle while pushing your body to burn extra calories. The Last thing we do is grab a pair of weights. Punching will help tone your arms but then after a few rounds on the bag grabbing a set of dumbbells and weight training with the class will help you get the defined and toned arms you’re looking for.

Cool Down
And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a running machine , or riding a bike.
